On September 5, 2023, a group of four people, including Daniel Méndez, the Secretary of Innovation of the Presidential House of the Republic of El Salvador, Aldo Alvarez, the Ambassador to China, Fatima Rodriguez, the Advisor to the President, and Counselor Paula Caballero, visited Chongqing Jiaotong University under the accompany of personnel of the Foreign Affairs Office of Chongqing Municipal People’s Government. Lai Yuanming, President of Chongqing Jiaotong University and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, met with the guests in the International Conference Hall of Mingde Building. Relevant personnel in charge of the International Office, the Party and Government Affairs Office, the Science and Technology Office, the College of Traffic & Transportation, the School of Smart City and the College of International Education also attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Vice President Huang Chengfeng.

Lai Yuanming, President of Chongqing Jiaotong University and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, delivered a speech on behalf of the university and extended a warm welcome to the guests. He also introduced the basic situation of the university, including its historical development, status, disciplines and majors, personnel training, scientific research development and open education.

Daniel Méndez, the Secretary of Innovation of the Presidential House of the Republic of El Salvador, and Aldo Alvarez, the Ambassador to China, delivered speeches respectively, expressing their gratitude to the university’s warm welcome and congratulating the university for its achievements in various fields. They also hoped to reinforce cooperation with the university in aspects such as science and technology innovation, talent cultivation and vocational training, and that more Salvadoran students could come to Chongqing Jiaotong University to study and exchange.

Lai Yuanming, President of Chongqing Jiaotong University and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, required that relevant functional departments and colleges should strengthen contact with the Embassy of El Salvador in China to couple and implement relevant cooperation projects. He also said that Chongqing Jiaotong University warmly welcomes Salvadoran students to study at the university.

Before the meeting, the guests visited the university’s Chongqing Key Laboratory of Traffic System & Safety in Mountain Cities. The Secretary of Innovation and the Ambassador to China said that the Republic of El Salvador has numerous mountains and rivers and serious traffic congestion. They hoped to reinforce cooperation and exchange in relevant fields, so that El Salvador can learn from the achievements and experience of Chongqing and the university in solving urban traffic congestion through digitization, visualization and data analysis technologies.
